ZAP Delivers More Smart Cars, Arizona Dealer Says Micro-Cars Are 'Stopping Traffic'
PHEONIX, AZ-- Feb 28, 2006 -- Advanced automotive pioneer ZAP (OTC BB: ZAAP) announced today that all applicable government certifications for the Smart Car Americanized by ZAP? have been filed and cleared, allowing for the delivery of 85 units to licensed ZAP automotive dealers throughout the United States.
ZAP Dealer Tim Day of Phoenix, Arizona hands over the keys to Roberto Hernandez in the first public sale of a U.S. legal Smart Car in July 2005. The Smart Car is flanked by two other famous small European cars, the BMW Isetta and the VW Bug.Auto dealer Tim Day of Phoenix, Arizona received one of the first shipments of Smart Cars from ZAP. Day helped in the delivery of the first publicly sold Smart Car Americanized by ZAP when it was auctioned on eBay last summer. Day says he is experiencing first-hand the popularity of the cars.
"We took delivery of the Smart Cars over the weekend and have been getting interest everywhere we go -- left, front and center," said Day. "As we were parking them in front of the dealership, they attracted so much attention they literally stopped traffic, and even caused a fender-bender as people were gawking at them. I drove by my son's elementary school and the teacher invited me to bring the Smart Car for show and tell!"
According to a recent announcement by ZAP's registered importer, hundreds of Smart Cars are being modified to meet U.S. standards for distribution by ZAP. CEO Steve Schneider stated that ZAP is delivering Smart Cars to its licensed auto dealers as they prepare parts and service programs to support the cars. ZAP expects to announce additional authorized dealers imminently. The public can register their interest to buy a Smart Car and other ZAP Cars by visiting www.zapworld.com.
"Previous delays of Smart Car shipments were beyond ZAP's control," said Schneider. "We have just learned that some of the delays were due to non-Smart Car related business. ZAP has invested several million dollars and over two years of effort to bring the highly efficient Smart Car to the U.S. marketplace and will continue to work on this process."
ZAP has filed suit against Daimler Chrysler and others for business interference, according to Eric George of Southern California law firm Browne Woods and George LLP. George stated that "No matter the identity or location of the wrong-doer, ZAP will vigorously defend its investment in its proprietary technology and distribution rights."
