Range
Would be a very useful and economical buzz around for biz.
Only problem is range. Can 3 12v batteries be added?
Also no technical section available on website..
Great work on making EV practical.
Hoot
Xebra Range
The Xebra was designed to create an affordable EV today, but it was not designed to be a replacement for most of today's gas vehicles. We don't recommend adding additional batteries to your system and such a modification would void the warranty. ZAP can get larger batteries for your Xebra so you can get more range. We are also testing some lithium battery upgrades. Talk to your closest ZAP dealer about the latest ideas to maximize range. I drive one, but still have my gas car for the once-in-a-while trip when I have to drive long distances. But most of the time I drive my Xebra.
Oh, the Xebra Owners Manual is online under 'Support' above.
I want one TOO!!!
This is what I've been waiting for an electric pickup truck, or at least it's little brother. I'm curious to what the cost will be when the battery bank needs replacing. Assuming you can get 100,000 miles out of this model you'd go through four sets of batteries.
Check with Closest Dealer on Battery Pricing
We don't sell the batteries directly. You would have to buy replacement batteries through your closest dealer. The price can very depending on where you live and depending on the dealer you buy it from. Also ask for extended range battery options. Here is the link to schedule a test drive...

Xebra Zaptruck Zero
Hello,
I really like the XEBRA ZAPTRUCK but I am finding your documentation confusing, and have some questions:
XERO option: I cannot find any info on pricing for the Xero (solar panel) option for the XEBRA ZAPTRUCK, nor any specs on how long it would take to recharge the vehicle using this option. I live in Tampa, FL so sunny days are the norm around here. If I could drive it to work, park in the lot, and let it recharge while I am working I could save major $$$ on gas.
PAYLOAD: The above article indicates a 1000 lbs capacity, yet the Xero Pdf only mentions a 300 lb capacity, and if you take the Shipping Weight from the XEBRA ZAPTRUCK Pdf and subtract that from the GVWR in the Pdf; you get 942 lbs. So what is the max payload of people and cargo??
SPEED: I only know of a few side roads that the speed limit is 40MPH or less here in Florida. Most are 50-60MPH and multi-lane. I have lived in Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, and now Tampa and this is the case in all those cities. Is there a way to increase the speed on the XEBRA ZAPTRUCK?
RANGE: I drive 14 mi to work one way; just out of the round trip range of the XEBRA ZAPTRUCK. Is that 25mi at 40MPH range? Can you add batteries to increase the range?
All Good Questions - Take a Test Drive
The price and the options of the Xebra must be quoted by an auto dealer. The solar panels can give you a little extra range, but they will also extend the lifetime of your batteries and show people you are driving a solar-electric vehicle. You will get a much, much more significant charge off of charging from a household outlet, but you can get a few solar (free) miles with a solar panel.
There was some confusion about the carrying capacity of the Xebra, which is about 1000 lbs, including passengers, if you look at the GVWR vs the shipping weight. I checked this out and I don't see the typo on the PDF anymore.
The Xebra won't be for everyone, but it is a good addition to a household that has more than 1 gas car. This is why I would recommend a test drive. We are opening more dealers in Florida, fill out the test drive request on this page if you haven't tried one already and the salespeople can answer the balance of your questions.
You're getting very close...
You're getting really close to making a car that I'd like to own. I've been interested in EV's for years, and I definitely plan to buy one someday before long. I'm thrilled to see your company out there making a serious go at a full production electric car, and I wish you the utmost success!
The price is reasonable, but even if it raised the price some, this is what would REALLY get me (and probably many others) hooked into buying one:
> A switch that enables 50 MPH TOP SPEED, even if it sacrifices some range. This is by far the most important improvement you can make. I must have the ability to travel short jaunts on 45 mph roads and 50 mph highway feeders without being left in the dust by everyone else. Even a reliably-reached 45 mph would be a significant improvement. 40 is just slightly too slow.
> better styling: if the Xebra had a front-end styled more like your Zap-X, or at least paint colors that were more mainstream (like white, silver, burgundy, champaign, dark blue, etc.), that would be a SERIOUS improvement. The current car is cute, but I'd much more eagerly buy one with some of the Zap-X looks, in a rich glossy silver or burgundy.
> I don't want to buy any electric vehicle that is stuck with lead-acid batteries forever. Show me in your marketing how adaptable the Xebra will be to emerging battery technologies, like lithium and Nimh, when they become affordable. I can be happy with a 25 mile range today if I know I can upgrade to longer ranges later.
That's it! Those aren't major changes. Keep up the great work! And I'll be watching your website with some interest.
Great design! I hope to see
Great design! I hope to see these in Canada. I see more and more Battery operated Scooters and bikes on our roads and love that people are becoming more environmentally conscious. With the increase in fuel prices this is a great option for those looking to save some money. I'm also noticing an increase in free parking for motorcycles & Scooters here which is great for encouraging others to get on board! ~ Patricia
lifepo4 batteries in Xebra
Are there lifepo4 batteries available for the Xebra or Xebra PK yet?
Has anyone retrofitted an existing Xebra with lifepo4 batteries, possibly the thundersky ones?
Lithium Batteries
Not sure what lifepo4 batteries are, but it sounds like a brand name. If you are inquiring about Lithium batteries, we can now special order them for the Xebra sedan and truck. Call ZAP Sales at 707-525-8658 x 0 if you are interested.
Last year we had proved the concept in our Xebra and have various plans in place to use more lithium battery technologies in our EVs. See news below...
